Using Text Tool, Layer Styles and Layer Effect
I will be creating my new font which will go on the front of the DVD and going vertically down the spine. I have to consider the placement of the font again because now that I have the hands image and the blood I feel like it will be too much happening in that kind of area; this was where the font was before so it will not go there. I’m thinking more in the centre above the tips of the fingers and just below the eye because the eye is the main focus I don’t want the font to hide this but for now I will initially create the font and the placement can be changed and this will be based on wherever looks best.
To begin creating my title, I used the Type Tool to write the text out, as you know already I have found the font I wanted to use. I decided to use the colour white because I found that white went well against the image in the background and also because when I will incorporate the glow effects again the colour white went the best as you don’t get font glows that are the colour black it doesn’t look right. The other colour option for me was red but I felt for the front cover this would be too much of the colour red especially with the red fibres coming from the top of the image and then the blood splatters around the hands. In terms of the size of the font I went for what fit the cover, not all the length of the front cover. I decided to position the font below the eye and to the centre.
I decided to take a copy of this text layer because now that I have added the glow effect the text is a little hard to read so I duplicated the text without the effect applied so that I have this to be able to read and have turned down the opacity and fill. I applied an Outer Glow from the Layer Styles, changed the blend mode from Screen to Lighten, I also changed the default colour glow from a yellow tone to a white as I didn't want the glow to be this colour and I also changed the Spread and Size of the glow looking at the change it made until I liked the look of it. I added a Motion Blur to my text, just at 90 degrees and very little. You can tell in the image that all the layers do different things to the text, like the glow, motion blur, and then the copied text layer.
I decided to create a folder for all the layers that my text used so it will be easier for when I do my spine text as all I will have to do is copy the folder and make the font smaller and going vertically down the spine. Below is the completed font on the front and down on the spine, it is that exact same font with the same effects.
